Daylight Savings transition dates are different
DST was first observed in BCS in 1931 and has now been observed in all of Mexico. Except for a small region located close to the US border, DST is observed between 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in April through 2 a.m. on the last Sunday in October.
The United States and Canada starts DST on the second Sunday in March and ends it on the first Sunday in November, Mexico’s time zones are out of synchronization with American and Canadian time zones for two periods each year.
The first is the three or four weeks between the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in April leaving the region in Mountain Standard Time while the rest of the time zone shifts to Mountain Daylight time. This basically puts Los Cabos on Central Daylight Time until the time changes in Mexico.
The second is the single week between the last Sunday in October and the first Sunday in November, leaving the region in Mountain Daylight Time while the rest of the time zone shifts to Mountain Standard Time. This basically puts Los Cabos on Pacific Daylight Time until the time changes in Mexico.
Confused?
Confused?? There is an easy way to be sure of the current time in Los Cabos by using your clock app on your phone.
Set time in Los Cabos to the city of Mazatlan.Β This will always be the correct time in Cabo and will shift to daylight savings when the rest of Mexico does.Β Β Then add Denver (Mountain), Houston (Central) and Los Angeles (Pacific) to see the time there.
Throughout most of the year you will see Mazatlan/Los Cabos aligned with Denver.Β During the spring transition period you will see Mazatlan/Los Cabos aligned with Houston.Β During the fall transition period you will see Mazatlan/Los Cabos aligned with Los Angeles.
